Spotify adds emoji reactions to collaborative playlists

A heart, a fire, or a sad face might soon define your collaborative playlists as Spotify rolls out a new reaction feature. Users can now attach specific emojis to individual tracks, offering immediate feedback on song choices within shared music collections built by friends and family.

The current selection remains limited to six specific icons: heart, thumbs up, ROFL, fire, sad, and headphones. Because the lineup lacks overtly negative options, the sad face will likely serve as the primary tool for expressing musical disapproval among collaborators. To maintain a private environment, these reactions are visible exclusively to playlist owners and active contributors, preventing strangers from weighing in on your personal taste.

Reactions are enabled by default, though playlist owners retain control through the settings menu. Users can also opt into receiving push notifications when someone reacts to a song they added, provided they are already connected on the platform. Spotify plans to distribute this update across select markets over the coming weeks, according to official community forum posts.
