The incident began when the car went missing from the factory premises, a location Rimac previously considered secure enough to leave vehicles unlocked with keys inside. Upon discovering the theft, employees accessed the car's real-time telemetry data, which provided precise updates on the vehicle's location and speed. This allowed Rimac and local authorities to track the movements of the thief in real time.
The suspect, a man in his mid-30s, managed to evade an initial interception at a gas station before crossing the border into Slovenia. Law enforcement agencies from both nations coordinated to apprehend the individual, who reportedly claimed he found the keys while visiting the factory to apply for a job. The man allegedly intended to drive the vehicle to Germany. Following the recovery of the car, Rimac confirmed he has abandoned his habit of leaving keys in unattended vehicles.
