Ford Targets Entry-Level Market With $28,350 Fathom Electric Pickup

The five-passenger Fathom represents a critical milestone for the company as the debut vehicle built on its proprietary Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. Ford officials view this architecture as the primary engine for dragging its Model e business unit out of multibillion-dollar annual losses toward a break-even point by 2029. While the company has yet to reveal the truck’s design, manufacturing is slated for the Louisville Assembly Plant using an "assembly tree" process designed to maximize production efficiency.

Preorders are scheduled for early 2027, with initial deliveries expected before the year ends. The strategic pivot toward affordability comes as Ford navigates a broader industry slowdown in electric vehicle adoption and the erosion of federal consumer incentives.
