The feature is currently available on iOS for subscribers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden. Runners can choose from 25 curated presets or design a session from scratch by inputting desired beats per minute, run length, and genre preferences. Optional audio cues are also included to help maintain motivation throughout the workout.
This release marks a shift from Spotify’s previous attempt at fitness integration in 2015, which relied on phone sensors to adjust music dynamically based on real-time speed. The new iteration abandons automatic tempo detection in favor of user-defined workout structures. The tool leverages the company's existing AI-driven 'Prompted Playlist' technology, further cementing Spotify’s strategy to consolidate music, podcasts, and audiobooks into a single fitness-inclusive destination.
