Jersey Mike's Slips Below IPO Price in NYSE Debut

Trading under the ticker JMKE, Jersey Mike’s opened at $21 per share on Thursday, failing to hold its $23 pricing. Despite the initial 2% dip, the sandwich chain successfully raised $1 billion, marking one of the largest restaurant IPOs in history and valuing the company at $7.3 billion.

The chain currently operates nearly 3,300 locations, securing its position as the second-largest hoagie retailer in the U.S. and the largest publicly traded entity in the category. Financial disclosures show $55 million in net income on $724 million in revenue last year, supported by a 3% increase in same-store sales.

CEO Charlie Morrison attributes this resilience to a higher-income customer base less sensitive to current inflationary pressures. While the broader restaurant industry struggles with softening traffic, Morrison noted that year-to-date growth has been fueled primarily by transaction volume rather than price hikes. The debut serves as a bellwether for the sector, potentially paving the way for other major players like Inspire Brands to enter the public market.
