Eli Lilly Raises Sales Outlook as Weight-Loss Drug Demand Keeps Climbing

Eli Lilly crushed third-quarter expectations on Thursday, fueled by unrelenting demand for its blockbuster treatments Mounjaro and Zepbound. The company now projects 2026 revenue to reach between $91 billion and $92 billion, a significant leap from previous forecasts. Adjusted earnings hit $7.48 per share, comfortably outpacing the $6.26 expected by analysts. Worldwide revenue climbed to $24.40 billion, driven by a 65% surge in Mounjaro sales and a 49% increase for Zepbound. This growth persists even as the company navigates lower net prices in the U.S. following a drug pricing agreement finalized last year.

While the injectable portfolio thrives, the April-launched pill Foundayo brought in $184 million, falling short of the $229 million consensus. CEO David Ricks is leveraging the company's record windfalls to aggressively expand its pipeline, including a recent deal to acquire Merida Biosciences. With U.S. revenue climbing 34% and international markets showing a 47% boost, Lilly continues to widen its market share lead over rival Novo Nordisk, bolstered by expanded Medicare coverage for obesity treatments.
