The failure fueled frustration among subscribers who expected seamless connectivity during the network blackout. While some users managed to establish a connection, many others remained stranded in SOS mode, questioning the reliability of a service billed as a robust alternative to traditional towers. Technical constraints likely played a significant role in the performance gap; Starlink connectivity requires a clear, unobstructed view of the sky, meaning buildings, trees, and urban infrastructure can easily block the signal even when a user is within the service area.

This performance hiccup arrives amid internal admissions that the T-Satellite service is seeing minimal adoption. T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan recently disclosed that satellite usage accounts for roughly 0.0003% of the carrier's total network traffic. Despite the initial hype surrounding the SpaceX partnership and a reported 1.8 million sign-ups during the service’s beta phase, the product currently functions more as a niche supplement than a reliable emergency fail-safe. T-Mobile has yet to provide specific details regarding the cause of Monday's outage or why the satellite handoff failed for so many customers.
