The M6 silicon serves as the backbone of these updates, introducing a dual 16-core Neural Engine and memory bandwidth reaching 170GB/s. Apple claims the chip allows for private, on-device execution of large language models, a strategy bolstered by the inclusion of macOS 27 Golden Gate. This operating system update integrates a rebuilt Siri assistant capable of parsing personal context from emails, messages, and photos.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro features a 12-core CPU, with Apple citing up to 25 percent faster AI performance compared to the M5 model. Battery life is rated at 24 hours, supported by Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity. The laptop starts at $1,999, while the iMac, which also integrates the M6 chip, starts at $1,499. The desktop model offers upgraded 2.5Gb Ethernet and doubled SSD speeds alongside its existing 24-inch 4.5K display.
Beyond hardware, Apple expanded its software suite with the Apple Creator Studio bundle, adding AI-driven assistants to Logic Pro and the iWork suite. These tools support the Model Context Protocol, enabling third-party agents to interact with documents. The company also unveiled an 8.5-inch OLED iPad mini powered by the A20 Pro chip, featuring a thinner chassis and IP67 water resistance. Pre-orders for the new Macs and the iPad mini commence October 28, with retail availability scheduled for November 6.
