Apple confirmed this past Thursday that it is raising prices on its MacBook and iPad lines, explicitly citing the memory supply crunch as an unprecedented challenge for its hardware division. This move signals a broader shift in the industry where supply chain constraints are no longer being absorbed by corporate margins but are instead appearing on store price tags.
Best Buy is bracing for a similar impact. Incoming CEO Jason Bonfig recently noted that the company’s computing division faces significant pricing pressure throughout the second quarter. While Best Buy attempted to mitigate the trend by aggressively stockpiling inventory during the first quarter, the company anticipates that higher average sale prices will likely dampen unit demand in the coming months. Tech giants like Nvidia, AMD, and Google continue to dominate the supply chain, leaving traditional hardware retailers struggling to secure necessary components at sustainable costs.
