Boeing offloads three subsidiaries to Archer Aviation

The divestment includes Wisk Aero, which focuses on autonomous flight, and SkyGrid, a developer of air traffic management software for urban mobility. By offloading Insitu—a manufacturer of high-altitude drones utilized by the U.S. Navy—Boeing effectively transfers its advanced tactical and autonomous capabilities to Archer.

Archer CEO Adam Goldstein framed the acquisition as a vital move to diversify his company’s platform and scale operations beyond initial prototypes. For Boeing, the transaction serves as a way to maintain exposure to the eVTOL market while offloading the development burden of these niche technologies. Brian Yutko, vice president of commercial airplanes product development at Boeing, noted that the move allows the transferred units to accelerate their time to market while Boeing refocuses on its primary commercial aerospace businesses.
