Tesla to wind down Texas Cybertruck production by mid-2026

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Friday that the company plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas gigafactory around the middle of next year, freeing capacity for the Cybercab robotaxi. He did not say whether the pickup would be built at another facility.

Musk announced the plan in a post on X, despite having previously described the Cybertruck as the future of the pickup truck segment. The Texas plant is the only facility where Tesla currently makes the truck; it also produces the Model Y and the two-seat Cybercab, which Musk has presented as important to the automaker’s future.

In a later reply to an X user who called the news an “end of an era” and the Cybertruck Tesla’s “best vehicle,” Musk said: “True, but the Cybertruck fleet will be around for a long time.”

Tesla began delivering Cybertrucks in late 2023. The company did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
