Wonder confidentially files for IPO after $3 billion in funding

Founded in 2018, Wonder offers delivery and takeout through an app that brings together food from restaurants across the country. The company, first envisioned around sprinter vans fitted with mobile kitchens, now operates about 170 brick-and-mortar locations in the United States. They serve food from more than two dozen restaurant concepts and cuisines, including some carrying celebrity-chef branding.

On Nov. 17, Wonder plans to launch Wonder Create, giving influencers, entrepreneurs and brands the option to start restaurant businesses based at Wonder locations. Participants can pay $10 a month and receive a portion of revenue from orders.

Wonder has spent at least $1 billion on acquisitions, including Grubhub, Blue Apron and delivery and logistics provider Relay, as well as restaurant concepts. It has raised more than $3 billion in venture funding. Lore told CNBC in September that IPO proceeds could support further acquisitions and the company’s goal of making food more accessible.

A public listing would also expose Wonder to investor scrutiny. Weak consumer sentiment has weighed on restaurant stocks, while market volatility has made the IPO market unsettled across industries. Lore previously founded Diapers.com and Jet.com, which he sold to Amazon and Walmart, respectively.
