Bypassing the M5 architecture, Apple’s new iMac centers on the M6 chip, promising significant leaps in processing speed and artificial intelligence capabilities. According to the company, the device delivers up to 2.5 times faster performance in Microsoft Excel and doubles gaming speeds compared to the preceding M4 model. Graphics performance also sees a substantial boost, reaching 3.3 times the speed of the original M1 version.
Beyond internal silicon, the hardware integrates the N1 wireless networking chip, enabling support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The exterior retains the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, and a familiar seven-color palette, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. Connectivity remains consistent with the previous generation, featuring up to four USB-C ports and support for dual 6K external displays.
Pricing for the new lineup begins at $1,499 for the 10-core CPU and GPU configuration, scaling to $1,699 for the 12-core variant. While Apple is accepting preorders starting at 1:10 p.m. ET today, additional retailers including Amazon and Best Buy are expected to list the machines shortly. The full commercial rollout will follow on November 6.
