Rob Kaffl, Ford’s director of U.S. sales, points to a 96% reduction in rental fleet business as the primary engine behind the numbers. Unlike competitors who often burn through existing inventory or delay product transitions, Ford is intentionally pulling back to prioritize retail demand for its F-Series trucks. This shift comes as the automaker stabilizes production levels following last year's supply chain disruptions caused by aluminum shortages.
The strategy marks a distinct departure from industry norms regarding model changeovers. While Ford has already begun phasing out the Escape and Lincoln Corsair, the company is opting to endure a temporary volume contraction rather than padding sales figures with less profitable rental contracts. This focus on retail health aims to preserve margins while the manufacturing line prepares for a new wave of vehicle launches.
