Macklemore concert prices surge following removal from Ed Sheeran tour

A 45% spike in ticket prices for Macklemore's upcoming Red Rocks performance signals a volatile market reaction after the rapper was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour. The sudden increase follows Macklemore's public disclosure that he was removed from the lineup after making pro-Palestine remarks during a New Jersey concert.

The cheapest tickets for the October show at the Colorado venue jumped from $108 to $157 in just three days, according to Keith Pagello, founder of the tracking firm TicketData. This surge marks a distinct departure from typical market behavior. The rapper confirmed on Monday that his removal stemmed from stadium owners threatening to cancel shows following his comments at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 4. In response to the fallout, he pledged to donate his $1 million in tour earnings to Palestinian aid organizations.

While Macklemore’s solo show sees increased demand, the secondary market for Ed Sheeran’s remaining dates reflects a different trend. Ticket prices have dipped at nine of the ten upcoming venues. Pagello notes that while this decline aligns with historical trends for touring acts, there is a clear uptick in resale volume. Fans are offloading tickets at a faster pace than previous tour stops, though it remains difficult to isolate whether this reflects a protest against the tour's management or standard consumer behavior. Sheeran addressed the controversy on Instagram, stating that the removal was a promoter's decision and emphasizing his desire to keep his performances free from political discourse.
