Snap CEO Defends Specs Pricing as September Launch Looms

Snap CEO Defends Specs Pricing as September Launch Looms

During Monday’s Q2 2026 earnings call, Spiegel characterized the new Specs as the company's largest long-term opportunity, despite refusing to disclose specific pre-order volumes. While he noted a significant amount of interest since the June announcement, he stopped short of confirming whether that attention is driving actual purchases. Spiegel acknowledged the difficulty of the sale, describing the device as a high-consideration purchase that requires hands-on experience to justify its cost.

Snap reported $1.6 billion in revenue this quarter, marking a 19 percent year-over-year increase that beat analyst expectations. However, the company continues to navigate financial challenges, posting a $164 million net loss for the period. Having already shed 16 percent of its workforce earlier this year to trim $500 million in annual costs, the company is banking on the September 16 launch to validate its pivot toward a new computing platform. CFO Doug Hott emphasized that the current focus remains on product quality and ecosystem development as the company prepares for the device's public debut.
