Samsung foldable prices likely to climb as RAM costs surge

With Samsung’s July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event in London approaching, early reports suggest consumers should prepare for a $100 price hike across the new foldable lineup. Driven by industry-wide memory shortages, the company appears set to pass increased production costs directly to buyers of the upcoming Z Fold 8 and Flip 8.

South Korean outlet SEDaily indicates the base 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8 will likely retail for $2,199, marking a notable increase over the $2,099 launch price of the Z Fold 7. The firm is also expected to introduce a new Galaxy Z Fold Ultra Wide model, positioned at $1,899.99. Meanwhile, leaks from industry observer Lanzuk suggest the base Galaxy Z Flip 8 may climb to $1,199, up from the $1,099 starting point of its predecessor.

This pricing trend follows Samsung’s recent strategy with the Galaxy S26 series, where base models saw a $100 jump and entry-level storage tiers were quietly discontinued to bolster margins. The catalyst for these shifts is a global RAM shortage, often referred to as "RAMageddon," sparked by the relentless demand for high-performance memory in AI-driven hardware. As manufacturers scramble to secure supply, the cost of components continues to force consumer-facing price adjustments across the broader electronics market.
