Waze adds motorcycle routing and AI-driven navigation tweaks

The platform is rolling out global navigation features that lean on Google’s Gemini technology to analyze historical trip data and traffic patterns, providing routes tailored to specific driver behavior. Users concerned about data privacy retain the ability to toggle these personalized suggestions on or off within the settings menu. Additionally, a new conversational tool—currently in beta testing—allows drivers to verbally query the app for nearby services, such as open restaurants or parking availability, mirroring features already established in Google Maps.

For those frustrated by frequent audio interruptions, Waze has introduced a less chatty mode designed to prioritize crucial hazard and turn alerts while minimizing voice prompts over podcasts or music. Simultaneously, the company is addressing the unique needs of riders with a dedicated motorcycle mode. This feature provides access to narrower streets and specific warnings for road hazards like potholes or raised crosswalks. Initially launching in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines, this navigation mode relies on a combination of AI processing and manual input from human map editors to ensure route accuracy.
