Snap Unveils Tetherless AR Specs at $2,195

The device features proprietary liquid-crystal-on-silicon displays capable of rendering a 115-inch virtual screen. Unlike competitors that require tethering to a smartphone or a computing puck, these glasses house two onboard Snapdragon processors to manage computer vision, hand-tracking, and interface rendering. The hardware is designed to deliver a 7-millisecond motion-to-photon latency, which Snap claims will anchor digital content firmly within the user's field of view.

Constructed from a Swiss TR90 polymer frame, the glasses come in two sizes weighing between 132 and 136 grams. The lenses include electrochromic technology, allowing them to shift from clear to tinted in 10 seconds. While the onboard battery supports four hours of mixed-use playback, the included charging case extends total operation to 20 hours. Preorders are open now for customers in the United States, the UK, and France, with shipments scheduled for this fall.
