GTA 6 tracking system could let players break their own morality meter

Rockstar is introducing a "Criminal Profile" system in GTA 6 that categorizes the behavior of protagonists Jason and Lucia. Unlike the honor mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2, this feature tracks the specific style of criminal activity, potentially allowing players to shatter the meter entirely through excessive, uninhibited violence.

According to YouTuber TGG, who attended a closed-door Rockstar North presentation, the system classifies players into four tiers: Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho. Context is key; the game distinguishes between necessary combat and unnecessary civilian casualties, adjusting the profile based on how efficiently a robbery or shootout is executed. Jason and Lucia possess individual profiles, ensuring their personal criminal trajectories remain distinct throughout the game.

For those who prefer total anarchy, the game features a hidden state for the most destructive players. If a player engages in enough extreme, reckless violence, the profile icon will crack and eventually shatter. Once broken, the game stops grading behavior entirely, removing notification pop-ups for the remainder of that playthrough. Rockstar co-studio head Rob Nelson noted that while there is no singular "right" way to play, consistent choices will influence how the world reacts to the characters.

Community reactions remain polarized. Some fans fear that a morality-based system undermines the series' tradition of unrestrained chaos, while others view the tiers as a new challenge to master. Despite the concern, the mechanic appears separate from the traditional Wanted Level, serving as a layer of narrative reactivity rather than a strict punishment. Players can opt out of these notifications entirely if they wish to avoid the system’s judgment from the start.
