Instagram launches Your Algorithm to put control back in user feeds

The Your Algorithm tool marks a shift away from the opaque content delivery that has dominated social media feeds. While major platforms have increasingly relied on algorithmic suggestions from accounts users do not follow, this update brings those hidden preferences to the surface. Users can now view the specific categories the app believes they enjoy and proactively remove ones that miss the mark, such as irrelevant sports or niche hobbies.

To access these settings on iOS, users must navigate to their profile, open the menu via the three-line icon, and select Content preferences. Within the Your Algorithm section, individuals can refine their feed by adding or deleting specific interests. Mosseri noted that this update is merely the initial phase of a broader initiative, with plans to eventually allow users to adjust settings based on specific moods, content types, and general vibes.
