The entertainment technology company began by programming planetariums; its name blends “cosmos” and “colosseum.” Its domed screens once showed audiences the universe. They now recreate courtside views of sporting events and place filmgoers inside settings inspired by Hollywood movies.
Since 2024, Cosm has opened four theaters near Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit. A Cleveland location is scheduled to open in 2027. The venues have drawn sports fans with live matchups shown in an arena-like setting. Cosm says screenings often sell out.
The company has also partnered with studios to show films including “The Matrix,” “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “It.” Those titles came through a deal with Warner Bros., now part of Skydance. A recently signed agreement with Universal will add “Shrek” to Cosm’s domes in December.
