Amazon’s Page Turn Cover brings physical buttons back to Kindle

Amazon has finally addressed the long-standing demand for physical navigation buttons with its new Page Turn Cover, an accessory designed specifically for the Paperwhite Signature and Colorsoft Signature editions. While it arrives at a premium price point, the case restores a tactile reading experience missing since the Kindle Oasis.

The Page Turn Cover connects via pogo pins on the back of compatible e-readers, meaning it requires no battery and never needs charging. Once snapped into place, the accessory integrates seamlessly with the Kindle's software, allowing users to customize the two side buttons for page-turning preferences. The system is intuitive: when the device is rotated to accommodate the opposite hand, the software automatically maintains the correct directional orientation for the buttons.

Beyond functionality, the design stands out for its slim profile and magnetic closure, which allows the cover to fold completely flat during use. It is constructed from plant-based leather and features an IPX8 water-resistance rating, matching the durability of the devices it protects. Despite its utility, the $79.99 price tag remains a significant barrier, particularly because the cover is restricted exclusively to the Paperwhite Signature and Colorsoft Signature models. For readers who prioritize ergonomic comfort and the tactile feel of physical controls, however, the accessory effectively bridges the gap left by previous hardware iterations.
