Matter 1.6 Turns Smart Home Setup Into a Simple Tap

Previously, installing devices like in-wall switches or ceiling fixtures required complex configurations often performed in awkward positions before final mounting. The update shifts this paradigm entirely. Installers can now commission hardware before screwing a light bulb into a fixture or connecting a switch to mains power. For larger deployments, this means multiple devices can be prepared in advance and activated once placed in their final locations.

Beyond installation, the 1.6 release introduces Joint Fabric, which enables multi-user setups to be managed via a single shared network. Another addition, Thermostat Suggestions, allows for time-bound adjustments based on environmental conditions and user presets. The update also integrates enhanced security features, including event history for sensors and specific states for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, aiming to make the smart home ecosystem more reliable and less reliant on manual input.
