Mashable readers put their Apple intuition to the test at WWDC26

One solitary participant out of thousands accurately predicted that Apple would name its next operating system macOS 27 Golden Gate. As the company’s annual developer conference wrapped up, the results from the CNET Group’s Big Guessing Game revealed a mix of surprising foresight and collective optimism among the tech-savvy readership.

While the naming of macOS 27 stumped the vast majority, readers showed surprising accuracy regarding other event details. A majority of 54 percent correctly anticipated the arrival of a standalone Siri AI app. However, hardware speculation fell flat; only 23 percent of participants correctly guessed that Apple would skip physical product reveals entirely during the keynote, opting instead to focus exclusively on software.

The community also proved remarkably precise in estimating the presentation's runtime. With a median guess of 74 minutes, participants were nearly spot on for the actual 76-minute duration. Pessimism proved the better strategy for the watchOS questions, as those who doubted the integration of a native ChatGPT widget in the new operating system were ultimately correct. The guessing game continues on July 7, with further chances to win an Apple Watch ahead of the September iPhone launch event.
