Developer Sam Henri Gold discovered specific references to "foldState" and "angleDegrees" within the iOS 27 beta, parameters entirely absent from previous versions of the software. These identifiers suggest the system is being prepared to track the physical orientation of a device that can hinge or bend. Further inspection of the code revealed a new function designed to query a device for its total number of built-in displays, a capability unnecessary for the current single-screen iPhone lineup.
These findings have gained traction among prominent tech observers, including Mark Gurman and Marques Brownlee, who highlighted the blatant nature of the inclusions. While Apple has yet to confirm the existence of a foldable model, often referred to in industry circles as the iPhone Ultra, the internal software updates align with long-standing rumors of a multi-display device. Current industry expectations point toward a potential announcement this September, with a wider commercial release anticipated before the end of the year.
