The Capgemini World Wealth Report highlights that the largest gains were concentrated at the very top of the financial pyramid. While the broader millionaire class saw significant growth, ultra-high-net-worth individuals—those possessing $30 million or more in investible assets—outpaced their peers with a 9.4% population increase. This elite group, numbering 250,000, now controls 35% of all millionaire wealth despite representing only 1% of that population.
Gareth Wilson, global banking industry lead at Capgemini, attributes this widening divide to the structural advantages afforded to the ultra-wealthy. Access to private markets, hedge funds, and pre-IPO opportunities remains largely closed to standard millionaires. These exclusive financial channels provide higher returns, allowing the top tier to compound their fortunes at a faster velocity than investors who rely primarily on public stock exchanges.
