Before his association with Holmes, Evans maintained a conventional path. Raised in a San Diego family that founded Evans Hotels in 1953, he opted out of the family business to pursue a career in technology and finance. After graduating from MIT in 2015, he held positions at LinkedIn and the autonomous-vehicle firm Luminar Technologies. The relationship blossomed rapidly, moving from a three-hour conversation at a party to an engagement in 2018.
