Apple debuts $149 HomePod mini 2 with surround sound capabilities

Six years after the original device debuted, Apple has opened preorders for the HomePod mini 2. Priced at $149, the compact smart speaker arrives in five colorways and is scheduled for a broad market release on October 30, with early orders currently slated for launch-day delivery.

Standing just 3.3 inches tall, the updated hardware relies on full-range drivers and dual force-canceling passive radiators to manage audio output. Users can pair four units simultaneously to create a surround sound environment, specifically designed to integrate with the latest Apple TV 4K. Every purchase includes three months of complimentary Apple Music access.

While the device ships this month, certain software features remain pending. Apple confirmed that the integration of its advanced Siri AI will not be available at launch, with functionality arriving via a future software update. For now, the speaker is exclusively available through Apple’s direct retail channels, though wider distribution at major retailers like Amazon and Walmart is expected in the coming months.
