Amazon Prime Users May Receive Settlement Payments Through 2027

Millions of Amazon Prime subscribers in the United States could soon receive unexpected refunds as part of a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission regarding deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices. While the company has already distributed $845 million, the payout process remains active for eligible customers until April 2027.

The settlement targets users who encountered specific barriers when signing up for or attempting to cancel their Prime memberships between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Unlike typical class-action claims, there is no application process; eligible individuals will receive funds automatically via PayPal, Venmo, or physical checks sent through the mail.

Financial compensation may reach up to $200, though actual amounts will vary significantly. Eligibility requires that a user maintained a U.S. account and utilized no more than 20 Prime benefits—such as Prime Video or Music streaming—during any 12-month period following their enrollment. Those who used the service frequently are unlikely to qualify, as the criteria focus on users who faced friction while attempting to navigate the platform's subscription flow.
