Ford reported 507,395 light-duty vehicle sales for the period, marking a 6.6 percent decline compared to the previous year. This tally excludes heavy-duty trucks, which are categorized separately under the company’s reporting standards. Hyundai, encompassing its namesake brand, Kia, and the Genesis luxury division, saw a 5.4 percent increase to reach 506,200 vehicles sold.
The result defied expectations set by Cox Automotive, which had forecast that Hyundai would overtake Ford for the first time in quarterly data. Ford has faced persistent friction in its supply chain, particularly regarding the production of its high-volume F-Series pickup trucks following two significant supplier fires last year. While Ford works to stabilize its output, Hyundai continues to aggressively expand its presence across the American market.
