Jessica Caldwell, head of product insight at Edmunds, notes the phenomenon is highly unusual for the suburban crossover market, where vehicle turnover is rarely this aggressive. The scarcity is visible on the ground at Colonial Toyota in Milford, Connecticut, where owner Bobby Crabtree faces a stark reality: his lot is currently operating at only a third of its total capacity.
Crabtree estimates the facility could easily house another 250 vehicles if supply chains were functioning at normal levels. While his dealership remains stocked with a mix of new and pre-owned inventory, the consistent absence of the popular RAV4 has left significant, unproductive gaps in his display space. Toyota is now under pressure to close this inventory gap as dealers wait for production to catch up with the sustained market appetite.
