The pricing strategy for this year’s foldable lineup creates an unusual market dynamic. While the Z Flip8 carries a higher initial cost than the Flip7, Amazon is currently bundling the new device with a $200 gift card, effectively narrowing the gap for early adopters. This promotion challenges the logic of defaulting to the older, cheaper model, provided buyers can utilize the store credit.
The Fold8 situation is even more striking. With a starting price of $1,899.99, the new model undercuts the Z Fold7’s launch MSRP. Though the Fold7 is currently discounted to $1,799.99 at Amazon, the Fold8 comes with a $350 gift card for preorders. This makes the latest hardware financially competitive with—and potentially more attractive than—the outgoing generation. As global memory shortages and broader market volatility persist, it remains unclear whether the older Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 will see further retail price cuts or if supply constraints will keep their values artificially high.
