His defense comes as the FDA grapples with communication lapses, including a confusing clarification issued Monday regarding a false positive test result early in the inquiry. Despite the administrative friction, officials maintain that the parasite’s lengthy incubation period complicated the initial tracking process. No deaths have been attributed to the outbreak to date.
