Samsung enters financial services with new Galaxy Visa credit card

Starting this Wednesday, customers can apply for the Galaxy Card at Samsung retail locations or through the company's website. The rollout includes a sign-up bonus of $200 for those who spend $2,000 within the first 90 days of opening an account. This threshold is strategically timed to coincide with the Unpacked presentation, where the company is expected to debut a suite of new foldable devices and smartwatches.

The card offers a tiered rewards structure designed to anchor users within the Samsung ecosystem. Cardholders receive 5 percent back on direct purchases from Samsung, 3 percent on transactions made through Samsung Wallet, and 2 percent on streaming services. Additional benefits include a 20 percent discount on the Samsung VIP Advantage program and a baseline 1 percent reward on all other general purchases.

This launch marks a departure from the company's historical reliance on aggressive pre-order deals, such as double-storage upgrades or immediate cash-back incentives. With the industry grappling with ongoing memory supply constraints, the company is opting to leverage financial products to maintain consumer spending momentum rather than relying on traditional hardware discounts.
