To reclaim your inbox, open Gmail on your desktop and select the cog-shaped Settings icon, then click "See all settings." Within the General tab, locate the "Google Workspace smart features" section and select "Manage Workspace smart feature settings." From here, you can toggle off the smart features that power AI integration in Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. A second toggle allows you to disable Gemini across other products, including Maps, Wallet, and Google Assistant. Ensure you click "Save" at the bottom right of the pop-up to apply these changes.
Once disabled, the "Help me write" prompts, AI Overviews, and automated email summaries will disappear. The keyboard shortcut for AI assistance will likewise be deactivated. Note that Google does not remove every visual trace of the tool; the sparkle icon will remain visible at the bottom of your emails. If you click this icon or attempt to use the AI keyboard shortcut, the service will simply prompt you to re-enable the smart features if you change your mind later.
