The legal pressure mounted Monday when a coalition of state attorneys general, led by California’s Rob Bonta, filed a lawsuit to block the deal. The group subsequently requested a temporary restraining order to halt progress while the case proceeds. Kessler noted that this emergency request followed Paramount’s signal that it intended to finalize the merger by July 22, contingent on securing all necessary regulatory clearances.
Paramount is currently navigating a pivotal review by the European Union, which has set a July 22 provisional deadline for its decision. The company has already offered concessions to address antitrust concerns raised by EU regulators. Despite the mounting judicial hurdles in the United States, Kessler emphasized that the company retains full confidence in the strategic logic behind merging the two media giants.
