Premier Lacrosse League Eyes Independent Ownership by 2028

Paul Rabil, co-founder of the Premier Lacrosse League, plans to transition the organization to an independent ownership model by 2028 or shortly thereafter. This shift aims to move the league away from its current centralized structure, where the PLL retains full control over all eight existing teams.

The long-term strategy involves doubling the league's footprint from eight franchises to 16 within the next decade. Rabil envisions each team operating under separate ownership groups, effectively mirroring the business architecture of established professional sports leagues in the United States.

Since its inception, the PLL has managed its own clubs, a period that included a 2020 merger with Major League Lacrosse. Rabil, a 40-year-old former star who competed in MLL for a decade, intends to leverage this expansion to cement the sport's professional standing. By divesting ownership, the league seeks to foster localized investment and competitive stability, transitioning from a single-entity startup to a diverse franchise-based league.
